One of the National Trout Festival's most loved events, the fishing contest is brought to us by Coding Products, Northland Area Federal Credit Union, and Dunn's Construction.
Our thank yous and gratitude to the Coan, Nation, Duran, and Gipson families for their continued support of this event by hosting it on their family property!
The pond is located at 377 M-66 in Kalkaska. All children must be accompanied by an adult, no exceptions! The pond opens at 9 am and closes at 5 pm. The gate will open at 8:30 sharp! Please take care when parking. There will be volunteers to point you in the right direction.
The pond will be stocked with 750 fish including 102 tagged as prize winners (new rod and reel)! There are two fish (tagged as Papa Phil and Mama Ruth) that, if caught, garners the fisherkid a great gift basket! There is no entry fee and no registration is needed. Bring your fishing gear to the Coan Family Property at 377 M66 SE. Bait will be provided by DMF Bait. We do have some poles to loan for use so don't let not have a pole stop you from bringing the kids.
Kiddos get to keep their prize winning fish and up to two non-tagged fish for their eating pleasure!
Children (with an adult) and Veterans are welcome to come back on Sunday to fish from 9 am to 3 pm.
The Coan Family kindly greeted 100s of children to their property on Saturday morning as they hoped to catch one of the prize winning tagged fish!
Mike T. shows his son, Callan, his tagged catch. One of 1,002 trout stocked in the pond, a fishing tradition that is carried on from generation to generation. (2018)
Annie limits out at the contest and gets to take home three trout.
